Show of hands! Who uses instagram?
Oh good! so many of you do.

I love Instagram!
It's great for sharing what you do, taking artsy pictures, wasting time...
You can tag your friends in pics and look through hashtags for things you like.

For example, I like art. So I look through #art. 
Maybe I feel like baking hmm what do I bake? Inspiration! #bake #dessert
Makes sense right? Any man and his dog can do this...okay maybe not his dog, but I saw a cat playing fruit ninja on youtube, maybe his cat.

This is probably a pet peeve. But I hate it when hashtags make almost no sense at all!
What do I mean? Okay here's an example.

 

 Here is a picture of 2 fish fingers.

What makes sense: #fish #fried #crumbed(?)

What doesn't: #foodporn #igdaily #igers #instaday #instagood #instamalaysia #foodie #instafood#igerkl #iphoneasia #webstagram #tuesday #igtoday #popularpage #kl #instabest #swaggerific

  

Here is a picture of Peanut on a pillow! Isn't he cute?

What makes sense: #puppy # pets #dog #cute #aww #terrier (just trying to be nice) actually #mongrel

What doesn't : #petstagram #instadog #dogstagram #dogsofig #pillow #couch #blinds #leather #igdaily #igers #instaday #instagood #instamalaysia #igerkl #iphoneasia #webstagram #tuesday #igtoday #popularpage #kl #instabest 

What do half of these hastags even mean!?
Lets look at the most commonly used hashtags.


1. FOODPORN

These don't look like #foodporn. While it does make me feel like eating chap fan and Caesar salad.
No. It's not #foodporn. This makes more sense as #foodporn :

You know what else makes sense as food porn? Haha!
That you have to google. I googled foodporn and all sorts of actual food-porny things came out.




2. IGERS

This doesn't make any sense either! Why would you hashtag #igers? So people know you're an instagrammer? They're seeing your pictures on instagram! What do they think you're using to insta your pictures?? Fruit Ninja? Temple Run? Shazam? Psychic mind powers?!

3. PETSOFIG/DOGSOFIG

The picture you're looking at is a dog on instagram! It makes sense hashtagging dog. Because you're on instagram...and you're looking at a dog..on instagram.But just like hashtagging IGERS, why do you have to specify it's a dog of instagram? you're on instagram foo'! If not? what is it? a dog on flickr? #dogsofflickr 

4. GIRL/INSTAGIRL/WOMAN/SELCA(self camera)

Commonly used when posting up a picture of yourself. This is how it's used.

This is a picture of me having lunch.

#girl #woman #instagirl #selca and for the heck of it,

#igdaily #igers #instaday #instagood #instamalaysia #foodie #instafood #potm
#igerkl #iphoneasia #webstagram #tuesday #igtoday #popularpage #kl #instabest #swaggerific

Phew! thank god I #girl, you might've thought I was a man had I not.

Why tag girl? Isn't it a bit disturbing? o.o 

Because anyone who looks up #girl or #woman will find your picture.

And who do you think are the people looking through #girl? I think dirty old perves with dirty old sheets.

 

5. POTM/IGTODAY/POTD

Photo of the moment, this makes no sense to me. Every picture is uploaded at a different moment! Why tag it at all? Might as well tag #5pm #3pm #4pm #2am #4am.

It sounds like it's supposed to be your favourite picture of that day right?

But why tag every single one of your pics #potd?

Makes more sense if you only ever post one picture a day.

It's like hashtagging every single one of your food pictures #myfavouritefood #ionlyeatthis.

Or tagging your pictures #instagram.

Igtoday, why? cos you're instagramming that picture today and not tomorrow? 

What? that statement doesn't make sense? Yea good! It makes as much sense as hash tagging igtoday!

6.  igdaily/instaday/instagood/iphonography/picoftheday/ignation/instahub/instamood

Don't let me get started on these.

Maybe people should try being more creative with hashtags..
